2021.09.18 13:11 Hot-Possession2051 Why philosophers often can't explain their views clearly for the public?

Permit me to explain. Consider a mathematician. That mathematicial thought and thought on solving some mathematical problem and finally has solved it. He comes to a confeence and very clearly explains his solution. Even if she stumblessomewhere that is not because she has forgotten the slution (might be a calculation error or simialr).
Not so with philosophers, I've noticed! I've seen many philosophers videos on Youtube and when asked to explain something about their theories they all DO NOT SAY IT CLEARLY! they like START THINKING AGAIN!! hey even often do those facial movements as if in big trouble THINKING RIGHT AT THE PRESENATION WHERE THEY ARE EXPECTED TO BE PREPARED! WITH CLEAR PRESENTATION!!
Why this difference?

2021.09.18 13:11 SomeGuyCalledMichal Weird GPU artificating using a USB C HDMI adapter

After weeks of using my new laptop without a monitor because I can't figure out what the problem is, here I am :(
Before anything, specs of machine below:

So, as the title says, I get real weird artifacting when I use external displays and I can't for the life of me figure it out. Running mostly stock Ubuntu, with some of the Dell provided repos and addons for this XPS 13.
The issue didn't happen on my older 10th gen intel laptop, only this 11th gen. Doesn't happen in Windows. Tried running different kernels, still nothing.
It's also very random, like one time you plug it in the and the screen just constantly move from side to side and artifact, other times you get the odd random quirk of some elements on the screen and it's somewhat usable.
If any more info is needed, please do ask and thanks in advance for any help

2021.09.18 13:11 bjismyrealname Possible navicular - advice for diagnosis

Hi, all!
I have a free lease of a 22 yr old StandardbredxHanovaian (or "Standavarian"). I've had him for eight years so far. He used to be an eventer, but developed a sticky stifle not long after I got him, so I've only ever done flat work/dressage with him for the last six or so.
Over the last six months or so, I noticed he was feeling "off" more often. Short strided, not wanting to move forward, having to do a lot of work myself every stride to keep him moving. Not every ride, but it seemed to be getting more frequent. The one thing that was consistent was moving downhill, he REALLY shortened up his stride. Like, it felt like he was going down the bank at Spruce Meadows, when the downslope is barely noticeable. I was chalking it up to his age and maybe some arthritic changes. About a month ago, I started him on bute, one scoop Fri, Sat, Sun. I ride Mon-Fri, and he gets weekends off. This made a HUGE difference initially. Suddenly his stride was loose and long, even downhill.
This week, after a ride where it was again a struggle to get him going and he was short strided, I chalked it up to him being pissy at being brought back into work after a couple of months of light riding. Back in the barn in the cross ties, it looked like he was standing with one front leg slightly cocked out in front, weight on the toe, but only briefly. Weird. Next night, he felt lame-ish but only an odd stride here and there, but more a pronounced stance in the cross ties, again only briefly. Next night, definite lameness riding, but randomly at the trot, didn't want to canter, and clearly holding that leg out in the cross ties. No swelling, no heat, no reaction to poking or prodding all the way up to the shoulder, could weight-bear on the bad foot if you picked up the other. Left a note to start him on bute the next day ( for a week). Next day just went for a walk, but slightly lame at the walk. Longed him in the indoor (softer footing) one lap each direction, dead lame, worse to the outside. Wrapped him mostly to make myself feel better. Next day (yesterday) went for a walk again, felt sound, stride normal, felt good. Stood normally in the cross ties. Clearly the bute is working.
We have a vet shortage here, so I have to wait 2-3 weeks before the vet will be here to look at him. My farrier said he will come next week to put the hoof testers on him.
So now my question. Because we have limited access to the vet for lameness, I'm worried that if he's buted and only lightly worked, the vet won't see anything wrong. Where I board, there is nowhere to just lightly hack. All we have is two outdoor rings with not great footing, and an indoor where over the winter the footing packs harder and harder. If the diagnosis is navicular and he needs to retire, I will need to send him back to his owner (where he can become a trail pony), and it would be better to do that before winter hits.
Obviously I'm not going to work him to death so he's three legged lame for the vet, I just don't want it masked. I'm hoping if it is navicular, we've caught it early and it can be managed and he can still have a few more happy years. Any advice on how to manage him pre-vet? If he feels ok on the bute, do I ride normally? Or will that make the situation worse? I want the vet to be able to detect it, but I don't want to exacerbate it. Do I keep it to walking? We don't have any outdoor footing that isn't less ideal. This is my first real lameness so any advice is appreciated.
